Lehi Roundup

Last week was the Lehi Roundup. I seriously love summer festivities like this and we had a great time. During the week Lydia and I went to the library and then walked across the street for a bird show that was put on by the Hutchings Museum. A couple days later, David met up with us and we walked through all the booths at Wines Park. Saturday morning (after a late night driving home from Morgan) we got up and went over to the parade. We showed up a little late, but we managed to find a spot at the end of the parade route in a tiny piece of shade before the beginning of the parade got down to us. We'd been there for probably 10 minutes and you could see the first of the parade floats in the distance when we realized that Wendy and Sam and their family were situated right across the street from where we were sitting. We hurried and moved ourselves across the street and crashed their party. I'm so glad that we were able to sit by them, it made it so much fun! Totally random that we would pick the exact same spot on the parade route to set up camp. (Great minds think alike?)

One thing that I love about living in Lehi is the way that it feels like a small town. Case in point: The Lehi Roundup feels JUST like the Scandinavian Festival from Ephraim. Okay, maybe not JUST like it, but they really are very similar. The parade was full of homemade floats, with members of the community, schools, other groups, and even lots and lots of church wards with primary kids. It is so different than the bigger city parades that have much more commercialized floats. I love it this way so much more. It just was really fun. I guess they have a "mini-float" parade the night before where church groups (and I'm sure other groups in the community) can submit their floats - then the winners get to go in the big parade. Next year we are definitely going to make an effort to go to the Mini Parade because those were the cutest floats of them all. Lydia loved it when a float had balloons attached (which was fairly frequent). It was fun to watch her get excited about the floats. We also got to watch Josh play his sax in the Lehi Marching Band. We have a small Westlake vs. Lehi rivalry going - but I have to admit their marching band was A-mazing. It brings me back to my Show Choir days of marching/dancing in the Ephraim and Manti parades.  

After the parade we convinced Amy to come hang out with us, got ice cream cones, and headed home for Lydia's nap and some Nertz. (And an impromptu arm wrestling match - I'm so weaksauce.)

When she woke up we went backover to the "petting zoo". I think that we may have gotten there late because unfortunately it only consisted of a couple of goats and a cow. I was thinking there would be bunnies and other fluffy little animals. Lame. Especially because I really wanted to go and really pushed to make us get back out of the house. Luckily, Lydia loved it anyway. And then I made sure to clean her hands really good afterwards. (Also, as a sidenote... we walked around the booths again and got to try some samples at a Velata booth. Their gouda cheese spread? SO good. So so so so so good. Haha. I loved it! But not enough to pay 6 dollars for a tiny tub of it, or the $50 for the fondue set.)

(Don't judge the BYU onsie under her rodeo shirt. It was the only clean white onsie that she had. Utah State, Hey! Aggies all the way!) ((Not that we don't like BYU, I just felt a little traitorous showing off the Cougar blue when it wasn't specifically a BYU game.))

We had a fantastic day and are already looking forward to Lehi Roundup 2014!
