Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

Once upon a time, in a far away land called "Logan", there was a beautiful MacBook named Juliet. She was loved by all who knew her, especially her best friends David and Shantel. However, she was very lonely and she looked forward to the day that her prince charming would come and whisk her away to her very own happily ever after.

David and Shantel could see that Juliet was very lonely. She tried to hide her loneliness, but it was obvious that not only was she very lonely but very overworked as well.  David and Shantel wanted her to be happy, so they decided to set off on a quest to find the smartest, most handsome, most loving prince in the whole land to bring back to their dear Juliet.

[enter romeo]

After scouring the land for someone deserving of their dear Juliet, Shantel and David finally found him! Not only was Romeo very attractive with his 21.5" LED-backlit display, but he was very smart. (1 TB hard drive and 4GB memory in addition to the very enviable ATI Redeon HD graphics card.)
More than anything else, Romeo had a huge heart. After hearing about the beautiful Juliet, he agreed to go to her and try to win her affection.
----------------------
It was love at first sight!
Romeo and Juliet are now together and excited to begin their Happily Ever After.

And David and I are SO excited to have Romeo in the family now. He fits perfectly on our desk in our back room, which is now going to be called the "Office".  I have pictures of us bringing him home from the bookstore (we love tax-free apple day!) but I don't have my camera with me right now. I will post them later. We decided that now was a great time for us to invest in an iMac, considering how much I use Juliet for my little business. We also bought CS5 and will be receiving it in the mail within the next couple of weeks!
We are super excited!
(p.s. Yes, our computers are really named Romeo and Juliet. We bought Juliet right as I was going through a phase where I loved these songs: Check Yes Juliet and Love Story. And Romeo was fitting, don't you think?)

(p.p.s. I realize that Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet were not prince and princess. Our Romeo and Juliet, however, are.)

Pictures at last.

Have you noticed a severe lack of photos in my recent posts? I don't have any really good excuses for that except for the fact that I haven't been very good about taking pictures lately. However, I have a few pictures to post today.

Here are some from the past little while :)

I don't remember exactly what I was doing, (or why David took this picture for that matter) but it looks like I had just finished dinner and was in the middle of writing lesson plans for my classes. (Actually, I was probably playing Facebook Attack... but lets pretend that I was being really productive! Maybe pretend I was working on a wedding invitation or something.)

Last weekend, David and I decided to go out to dinner at Angie's. Their slogan is: "Where the Locals Eat." So now it's official! We are locals!

You can just imagine what David is thinking here. I'll paraphrase. "Why does this girl feel like she has to take pictures of us everywhere we go. As soon as I get my hands on that camera, i'm not giving it back!" So sorry David! But how else am I supposed to document our lives on our blog?

It's been so warm lately and so after our dinner at Angie's we went to Arctic Circle and got delicious ice cream cones! I love their cherry dipped cones. :)

I have to give some background our latest adventure so you will understand.

I had just gotten home from student teaching, and had about a half hour break before I had to leave to go to work. I grabbed Juliet (our sweet little laptop computer) and flopped down on the bed to rest for a minute while I caught up on my facebook/blog stalking. I had only been there for a couple of minutes when I saw a black spot scurry across the sheet close to my leg. I jumped off the bed and grabbed something to smash the spider that had tried to eat me, but couldn't find out where the little creature had escaped to. I was creeped out so I went into the living room to finish my facebook/blog stalking. When I went back into the room a couple of minutes later, I saw the spider on the floor. I was ready this time and I tried to smash it, but it was too quick for me again!

When I told David what had happened, I also told him that we would not be sleeping in our bed that night. And we didn't.

We had a sleepover in our front room! It was so much fun. (And so much less creepy. There is no way that I would have been able to sleep knowing that I was sharing a bed with a spider!)

We pulled the couches together to make a little bed, and it was actually very comfortable.
Isn't he cute? He looks happy for someone who has been kicked out of his bedroom by a little bug! He is so good to humor me when I get crazy ideas like these.

Blue Eyes...

Warning: This post is going to be a sappy one. So if you are one of those people who hates reading about how much other people love their spouses on blogs... then you best just go blog stalk somewhere else. I would suggest going HERE or HERE but not HERE

On my way to work this evening, I drove past the Fine Arts building at Utah State. I drive past it fairly frequently, and I often think of the time that I spent there while I was taking a photography class. (I loved the photography class, although it was very time intensive.) I would be in the darkroom for hours on end, trying to get my prints to have the perfect contrast and quality. There were many nights that David would bring little Juliet (our laptop computer) to the photo lab with me and do homework. He was always so kind, so encouraging, and so patient. After I would make a couple of test proofs in the dark room, I would come out and drag David away from his homework so he could give his opinion on which white, black and grey combination looked best.
(Sidenote: There are two acceptable spelling of the word grey. G-r-a-y is simply an American derivation of the original spelling g-r-e-y. I think that gray is quite an ugly word, while grey is much more appealing to the eye. Don't judge me.)

In fact, here is a picture of David and I in the photo lab. It was taken by my darling sister-in-law Amy when she came up to visit, and ended up having to stay in the photo lab for a couple of hours for me to finish a deadline. (Don't worry, we took her to Aggie Ice Cream to make up for it!)

Aren't we cute?

There is one particular memory that stands out to me about my time in the USU Photo Lab. This was one of those days that I can pin down as "This is when I was falling in love with David." I hope you know what I mean. Of course falling in love is a gradual process, and I already loved him very, very much at this point. But this was the real deal. This was when I said to myself "You want to marry this boy, you want to look into those blue eyes for the rest of your life."
Have I built up enough anticipation? Okay, here we go.

I was working hard on a project for my photography class. Our assignment was to have two portraits for class the next day. I had already finished one portrait (one of my sister jumping off the block A on the quad) and was working on my second. None of the pictures that I had taken were working for me. I had to take two entire rolls of film for this project, so I had plenty of material to work with, but none of my "best" shots looked the way I wanted them to. I decided to take a break from my real work and enlarge a picture of David from my film negatives. I started working on getting the contrast right, and couldn't stop. The thing that I couldn't quite see in the photo negative was the intensity in his big beautiful eyes. I spend at least two hours, maybe more, on this portrait of David. It was very simple, just a closeup of his face, but I was completely captivated.
(It is important to note that David was not with me in the photo lab this night. He had driven down to West Jordan for a family thing.)

The majority of my time was spent with small two-inch test strips trying to get the contrast of his eyes exactly perfect. Every time I looked at those eyes I saw how deep the love he had for me went. He was so happy, and his eyes were practically sparkling (a manly form of sparkling, of course). Throughout the course of the evening, I stared at those eyes like I never had before. By the end of the night, I knew that I wanted to be with those eyes forever. I knew that I would never find so much love in a pair of eyes as I found in those eyes.

I wish that I had that picture here with me so I could post it. Unfortunately, as it was a film photography class, I don't have a digital copy of the picture. However, here is another picture to show how blue his gorgeous eyes are.

(Thanks for the great shot Mindy, we love our pictures! If anyone is looking for a fantastic photographer, check out Mindy Black Photography. She is outstanding!)

As I was writing this post, I googled "poems about blue eyes" and decided that I would share some of these gems with you! (Haha. Prepare yourself. You have to love the world wide web!)

These poems are dedicated to David, my darling blue eyed boy:

Excerpt #1:
His blue eyes shined,
like the clear blue skies,
on a bright summer morning.
When he smiled
he could melt your heart,

Excerpt #2:
When I look into your beautiful blue eyes
I can see the stars twinkling in the sky
When I feel your hand touch mine
I feel a warmth so deep and so fine
You have stolen a piece of my heart

Excerpt #3:
those blue blue eyes tell it all
caught in those eyes, your blue blue eyes
floating in, you wonder why
its everything youve ever done
that draws me to the only one
dont ever want this feeling to end
my love for you has only just begun

Excerpt #4:
As I look at you
Into those
gorgeous blue eyes
Full of life
Full of love
No thoughts
make me happier
Than dancing in the sand with you
As shades of
purple sunset fades away

And now for my own poem dedicated to David:

Roses are red, your eyes are blue;
I think you love me, and I love you too!

Summer to-do list

Summer is right around the corner and I am e-x-c-i-t-e-d! Spring break has only made me more excited for the time that I will finally be able to bask in the sunshine.

Here are some of the things that I am planning to do:

  • Roller Skating at the Fun Park
  • Summerfest!
  • Float the canal
  • Do lots of sewing on my sewing machine
  • Go hiking
  • Read books outside on our porch during a rainstorm.
  • Not write lesson plans
  • Try to make Red Ladder Design a full time business
  • Go to lots of fun weddings to celebrate my darling friends getting married.
  • Eat lots of otter pops
  • Go skiing with the fam!
  • Go swimming (Aquatic Center, HPER 2nd Dam... any one are fine with me!)
  • Camping up Logan Canyon
  • Tour the Bluebird Candy Factory
  • Go on a Historic Tour of Logan
  • Bike Rides
  • To to let David do homework instead of convincing him to come play with me (He is taking a full load of classes this summer... yuck.)
  • Go to the Manti Pageant. (I don't know if this one will actually happen.. I convinced David to take me last year, and there is a good chance that we won't be able to make it this year. However, I will be there in spirit!)
  • Go on a fun vacation
  • Buy a new iMac computer! (Hooray!)
  • Learn how to use CS5  (Double Hooray! Photoshop CS5 - I love you. SO much.)
Have I missed anything? Last summer was my first summer in Logan and I LOVED it. However, I am excited to be able to enjoy the whole "In Logan" part this summer without having to worry about getting married and all of it's associated stresses. What do you like to do during the summer? I need good ideas!

Lets Celebrate!

Happy April Fools Day!

Happy Easter!

Happy General Conference!

Happy Spring Break!

Happy Spinter!

Whew! We have done a lot of celebrating over the past week.

My April Fools Day consisted of waking up to a foot of snow (okay... at least 4 inches), then having no working traffic lights on the way to work, THEN teaching 2 year olds disguised as 8th and 9th graders. THEN having a student break a $50 sewing machine part, and FINALLY having a student catch on fire while making pasta.

(I wish I could tell you that this was a practical joke. It wasn't.)

General Conference went much more smoothly than April 1st. I had to work in Logan all day on Saturday, but managed to find someone to cover the last hour of my shift so we could make it to West Jordan in time to for David to go to the Priesthood Session of General Conference with his Dad and brothers. We weren't planning on trying to leave Logan this weekend, but when we heard that Matt and Julie (Davids brother and sister in law who live Nevada) were going to be there we decided that we wanted to be there to see them! It was the first time in over two years that the entire Peaden family had been together!

We woke up Easter Morning to our nephews (who we ADORE) running around the house. These boys are incredibly sweet and loads of fun. Their parents, Wendy and Sam, are such great examples of what parenting should be. I only hope that when David and I have kids that we will be as good of parents as they are. We went upstairs and watched as the nephews (and niece) found their Easter baskets. The rest of the day was filled with lots of candy, really good food, and a generous portion of spirituality.

I love General Conference and am so grateful to be able to listen to the words of the prophets. If you want to learn more about General Conference and the Church of Jesus Christ or listen to what was taught, click HERE or HERE.

We came back to Logan Sunday night because David and I both had to work on Monday. It is my SPRING BREAK right now, but because David is still in school I am just picking up a lot of shifts in the computer labs. Don't think that is stopping me from celebrating my spring break freedom! We have slept in, eaten lots of popcorn and otter pops, watched "The Princess and the Frog", and eaten some very good food. Also, I have read an entire book and treated myself to a very long, very warm bubble bath. Life doesn't get much better.

For the last celebration of this post... I must give you some background information. I was checking my facebook the other day (naturally). My friend Abby was expressing her dislike of the extended winter season we are experiencing here in Utah (she is from Virginia.) A comment on her status seriously made me laugh out loud. Here it is, complements of Joshua Nielsen:

"There are only 2 seasons in Utah, there is Winter and Summer. Winter is divided into sub seasons of Fall/Winter, Winter/Winter and Spring/Winter. Right now we are in Spring/Winter or Spinter. It gives you the illusion of spring but in fact is still winter, then it jumps right into summer. On occasion we do have a Summer/Winter as it has snowed in June before."

This is the epitome of how I view the seasons of Logan. This comment made my day! Because there is nothing else we can do, we are celebrating Spinter and looking forward to Summer!

We hope that you have many things to celebrate and that you take the time to enjoy them! What are some of the things that you are celebrating this month?

Happy Spinter!

Bridal Faire Extravaganza

It is amazing how far life can progress in just one year. March 6, 2009 was the day that David proposed to me and we began our journey down the road called "Engagement" before we could get to our destination "Marriage." (Or for some.. destination "Golden Rung.") We loved being engaged, and one of our favorite parts was going to Bridal Faires. David and I went to several Bridal Faires and we LOVED them. We loved having people try to sell us on things, looking at all of the options for weddings out there, and of course eating all of the free food! Who knew that just a very short year later we would be on the other side of the Bridal Faire fence?

Last Saturday we were able to attend the Bridal Faire at Riverwoods as a vendor! We had so much fun and it was really successful. A shout out to my dearest sister, Jenna, and my amazing father, Scott. This wouldn't have been possible without the both of you!

Here are some pictures of our booth!

The full shot of the booth.

The fliers we handed out.

Samples for potential clients to take.

Closer Up.

The mantle of the fireplace we just so happened to get stuck in front of! It ended up working out really well, even though I was really nervous at first.

Our BEAUTIFUL red ladder. My dad and brother, Jacob, spend hours helping David and I make this vision of mine turn into a reality. Dad, Jacob, David... YOU ARE AMAZING!

We ended up talking to about 250 engaged couples. It was awesome and I loved it SO much. David was incredible and we had so much fun working side by side! The whole thing was a success! Now I am pretty much swamped with phone calls and e-mails from brides who need their wedding invitations done ASAP! I love it and I am SO excited to be able to actually be DOING this!
