Halloween 2024

Happy Halloween. Our kids have been looking forward to this all month. Each day first thing when they wake up they come downstairs to eat their "Frankie candy and count how many days left until Halloween.

Usually Shantel makes the kids costumes every. year. This year, she told them they would go to the store and they could pick out a costume. However, they have been going up to Wyoming every two weeks and working on the Ranch. With that, all the kids got Cowboy boots, and cowboy shirts. So she did tell them that if they chose to dress up as Cowboys/Cowgirls, she would buy them a cowboy hat. Austin and Lydia both decided to dress as cowboys. Caleb decided he wanted to be a Ninja and Lucy of course wanted a dress and chose an Elsa Dress.

Austin looks so great as a Cowboy.

Lucy - was so happy in her dress.

Caleb had a hard time deciding what he wanted to be - or at least picking out a costume. He saw a Ninja costume and decided he wanted to be that (partially because Anderson Ward was dressing up as a ninja), but he didn't like the Ninja costumes they saw at the store online. Finally the day before, Shantel got him to do the sword he wanted and a mask, but that was it. Shantel is amazing and put the rest of the costume together from things she had. She is so awesome and the costume turned out great.

Shantel joined with the kids and makes a really good looking cowgirl. She has been wanting to find some boots for a while and finally found some a few days before Halloween.

My office did trick or treating on the 30th and the kids got to come to my office and trick or treat.

I had to work late that night, but the kids told Shantel they really wanted to go to a magic show that was going on at the Scera. They convinced her and they had so much fun and loved the magic show (Audrey and Ellie Ward came with them).

On Halloween morning Shantel made Ghosts pancakes.

I joined Shantel, Lydia and Austin as a cowboy with my cowboy boots and a cowboy hat.

As our kids get older, Halloween is a little different. Lydia and Austin really wanted to go trick or treating with Audrey and Ellie. So they took off down the street. They would check in after they finished an area and see if they could go to the next part of the neighborhood, but otherwise, they just went on their own and had so much fun. Caleb and Anderson went off trick-or-treating and Cade Ward went with them. So I went with Lucy and I loved walking around with her. Then I came back to hand out candy at the house and Shantel took Lucy out. It was very cold once it got dark. Lucy and Caleb decided they were done and were ready to sit on the porch and hand out candy and drink some hot chocolate. Lydia and Austin made it all the way to our neighborhood, bull hollow and the TM houses and then came back and wanted to go to the townhouses and Shantel took them over there.

Caleb and Anderson in their Ninja costumes. Lucy and Amelia Perkins.

The next morning, as is tradition, the kids sorted their candy into colors and then had to show the amounts on a bar chart. Homeschooling for the win.

October Wrap Up

October Wrap up:

Shantel and Lucy.

A few weeks ago Austin bought a whole package of bacon and was so happy. We cooked it all and Austin loved being able to get bacon whenever he wanted. A few weeks later, Caleb also wanted to buy his whole own package of bacon. He was so so happy.

Any time Austin gets treats or something he likes to eat it very slowly and save it for over time. (For example, he had that package of bacon and it took weeks to eat it all). This was a root beer he had been saving for so long and we finally told him it was time and he savored that root beer.

We went to Zachary Peaden's birthday party.

We went to clean up Lydia and Austin's room and clean under her bed. It was so dirty. It was also the place that water bottles went to die. We ended up taking the best off the frame so things can't get trapped under it any more.
