Summertime is the best time when you have a 20-21 month old. This past month has been such a great month, and I attribute so much of that to you, Austin-boy. This life is the best.
Stats: I feel like this is so redundant, because he's just a little guy and doesn't seem to have grown SO much in the last few months. 12 month pants, 12/18 month shirts. Size 4 shoes. 4 teeth on top, 3 on bottom. He's the best.
Other things to remember:
--He loves attention, and lucky for him - he's got a big sister who gives him ample amounts of attention at home and anytime we go to extended family he's got loads of people who shower him with attention. On Memorial Day he got a kick out of helping Grandma Peaden put ice in the ice cream maker, and everyone else got a kick out of hearing him say "hot" instead of cold, even though he knows the difference and he has correctly identified hot and cold things many times. (Another example of his funny sense of humor.) He also spent a good amount of time standing on top of the car, being handed pieces of ice so he could throw them, then laugh and laugh and laugh.
--I always say that Austin is the happiest little boy. But, he actually has the grumpiest attitude sometimes. It's just that it's so fleeting, it only lasts for seconds at a time, so it's more funny than anything else. Case in point - he wanted to hold my phone and I wanted to take a picture. Doesn't it look like he's holding the phone for our selfie, though?
--This month Austin discovered that he can blow bubbles all on his own. He's actually really good at it and it will keep him occupied for an extensive period of time. It's messy, and he always ends up sitting in a whole puddle of bubbles - but it's worth it for how happy it makes him!
--He's getting so big and independent. At the park, he will go down the slide, run back to the stairs, walk along the bridgeway to get right back to the slide. He goes through that circuit over and over without needing any help from me. His favorite words are "I'll do it!"
--I don't know what it is, but as soon as he turned about 18 months I started calling him "Baby." I think it's probably influenced by the fact that he's obviously not a baby anymore and it's my attempt at keeping him small for as long as possible. (He pulled this blanket and pillow and laid it out for himself like he was going to take a nap in the middle of the floor.)
--He will come up to you and say "tickle-tickle" (gah-le) and try to tickle your toes. If you laugh and wiggle your foot he will laugh and laugh and laugh.
We're fighting the pacifier thing right now. Usually he's pretty good about throwing it back in his bed when he wakes up - but if he finds one and he starts sucking on it, it's hard to get it away from him. Also Lydia is the worst at helping with pacifier training. She purposely seeks them out and gives them to him, saying "But he wants it!" even when we ask her not to give them to him.
--Summer + popsicles + little friends = The BEST. We're lucky to have a bunch of little boys around Austin's age in our neighborhood. Give it a couple years and it's going to be SO much fun.
--Lydia did swimming lessons this month, which meant a lot of selfies in the stroller while we waited for her at the Legacy Center. Austin was so well behaved and for the most part he was content to hang out and watch what was going on. (Towards the end he started fighting it, but really he did a great job.)
--Really, just summer is the best. I love this little boy.
