Bruce lost his job in New York about a year and a half ago, which was sad. However, we loved having him here in Utah and being able to spend so much time with him. We were also so grateful for all of his work to help us finish our basement.
However, he just got a job in Colorado Springs Colorado. We are so excited for him, but will miss having him close by. We are glad that it is not so far away and we'll be able to see him more often.
He asked if I would help him move out by driving the moving truck out there. I was happy to help and was actually excited for the trip. It worked out to do over the weekend so Kevin, Amy and I were all able to go with Bruce. Bruce and Amy drove his car out and did a walkthrough of his new apartment. Kevin and I left a few hours later (around 7:30 am) with the truck.
Kevin and I had a great drive out. We talked about a bunch of stuff (work, sports, politics, racial equality, and coronavirus). It was great to chat and catch up. A couple of things from the drive. First, it was such a beautiful drive through the mountains. I loved how pretty it was and it was so fun to drive through and see all of the river rafting groups.
Also, it was definitely a different experience with COVID. I was not sure what the regulations were like in Colorado, and with a tall moving truck- I knew we would not be able to go through a drive through. I honestly did not know if we would be able to get any food on the way. Fortunately, when we stopped to get food, they did allow you to go inside to order (as long as you were wearing a mask) and then just take it with you. We stopped at a Dairy Queen and ordered and then ate in the truck.
I ended up driving the biggest chunk. About 5 1/2 hours in the morning. Then Kevin drove for 2 1/2 and then I drove the rest of the way in through Denver and down to Colorado Springs. I only grabbed a couple pictures while Kevin was driving, but forgot to do any others the rest of the trip.
We got there around 5:15 and moved everything up to the 3rd floor. It was quite the workout. His apartment looks great and I think he'll really like it there. We went and grabbed some food to take back to his apartment from Freddy's Steakburgers. The rest of the night we just chatted and then also played a couple of games (Carcosonne and Skull King). I really enjoyed spending the time with Bruce, Amy and Kevin.
We got up the next morning and returned the truck. Then headed home. Bruce drove us all home with plans to go back to Colorado a few days later. We chatted on the way home and listened to some Harry Potter.
The last night before Bruce left he came and stayed with us. Our kids have loved spending time with Bruce and he is a wonderful Uncle for them.
Caleb packed a backpack and insisted that he was going with Bruce too.
I am grateful to have Bruce as a brother and am glad he found a good job in Colorado, we can't wait to go out and visit him.
