Our family home evenings mostly consist of a scripture and a testimony that lasts under 5 minutes. We sing and opening song and closing song and have two prayers. Our activity is usually "chase the monster" or gets skipped in lieu of our kids who are already ready for family home evening treat. However, we are consistent. We almost never miss a family home evening. It has been fun to see Lydia take an interest in participating and also heartening, that we are doing something right. I came home yesterday and Lydia had big plans for FHE and wanted my help. She came up with a game and several activities. I helped her come up with a scripture about faith and we used a fan to demonstrate wind and talk about believing in things you can't see. Then Lydia had us do several activities including write cards to someone and writing who you love on the white board. She did such a great job and I am so proud of her.
Also, we try to keep both kids engaged in the lesson, but we were focussed on really listening to Lydia so we gave Austin a little more freedom to do what he wanted. He was particularly focused on building his "rocket ship." he had such a fun time coloring it and adding ribbons and different things to make it blast off. It was so cute. Austin could fit in the box so we did a blast off that night to rocket up the stairs.
