Lucy Holland. My 18-month-old baby. 18 months means starting nursery - but with no nursery to go to (thanks Covid), that milestone is not as... big. But in some ways, the other things that get missed when there is so much hustle and bustle going on seem to be more poignant and important. This girl is getting bigger every day. It is a treasure to be a part of her life.
Stats: 18 month everything. Loves shoes. Huge emerging personality. She feels dainty and her grin is large enough to take over her whole face. (These are not the stats that I usually put here, but they feel relevant this month.)
Here are some things to remember about this month.
-Loves brushing her teeth. i.e. eating toothpaste.
-She has a great sense of humor. When I try to put on her sleeper for nap/bed she immediately sticks her legs straight up in the air and laughs and laughs as I try to get them into the sleep sack. It's my favorite part about naptime/bedtime. Other than the fact that once I put her down for bed at 7, she's basically down for good until morning time. I am just cherishing this time because it's the best kind of bedtime when you can just put them down and they just go to sleep.
-She loves her siblings but is getting more attentive and attached. She also is getting more aware of when they aren't paying attention to her when she wants them to be paying attention to her. Ha. (Picture of her climbing on Austin from behind while he does his school work.)
-She loves David and I think that him working from home has been such a big blessing because they've got to bond so much. Sometimes while she's sleeping, I'll go run an errand and leave her in bed. When she wakes up, David will go get her and let her play on the floor while he works. I LOVE this arrangement and Lucy does, too.
-The picture of the shoes above are because Lucy LOVES to walk around in my shoes. Sometimes she will bring them to me to put them on her feet. Sometimes she can get them on herself. Sometimes she will bring them to me to put them on MY feet. One day I was trying to find some shoes to run out really quick and the ONLY shoes I could find were three left shoes. I couldn't find the right ones anywhere.
Christmas Adventures when you're the 4th baby in a pandemic: being forced to be baby Jesus in the Nativity Story (her face, ha!) and going to the store for the first time in... months and months and months. (At least she doesn't have to wear a mask!)
-I can't remember why, but we had one of our carseats inside (I think I was cleaning the cover) and Lucy went right over to sit down. Austin proceeded to strap he rin and push her all around the kitchen. It was her favorite day ever.
I included these slightly fuzzy pictures because I like how much you can see her eyes. Her eyes are miracles to me. You can see her slight head tilt in the right picture below.
Our Lucy loves her uncle Bruce. He was here for Thanksgiving and also ended up coming for Christmas (but that was after she hit her 18month mark).
-She's so smart. Just so so so smart. She's got a sassy little personality with lots of teasing and laughter always waiting to burst forth. She can climb on and off of the table like a pro, but still sits on the counter safely when I need to contain her. She loves balloons, balls, and cars, but doesn't really care for stuffed animals.
She LOVES her blanket! (How do I not have a picture of her with her blanket!?! I have about 1,000 videos of her with her blanket.) She calls it "Ba" and won't go to sleep without it. Often she will rub her hand along the edge to feel the softness. (Once, when her blanket was in the wash after a bloody nose - I couldn't get her to go to sleep without it. I tried offering every other blanket she owns and was met with screams of disapproval. I finally turned off the light and brought in my blanket made with the same material. I carefully laid it over her and she quieted down just enough to feel the fabric's softness. She fell right asleep - but I made a mistake and didn't replace it with her own before morning and she was grumpy at me all day.
This is another picture that shows her eye-tilt. It's not a big deal, but I think it's worth documenting what it looks like as an 18-month-old.
She's the loveliest, most opinionated, happiest, assertive, sweetest little sister.
We love you Lucy Holland!
