Caleb Samuel: 5 Years Old

Our Caleb-bo-baleb is officially 5!

The other day in church, he caught the eye of Brother and Sister Taufer who were sitting a couple of rows behind us and started staring at them intensely. They noticed and started playing a game with him. He cheerfully maintained his intense staring/eye contact until I realized that he was staring them down. After the meeting was over, they remarked what a fun boy Caleb must be and that he had a big personality. I responded that he absolutely was and that having just turned five he was a quintessential five-year-old. Meaning, he is the most perfect example of what a five year old should be. "Five-year-olds are wonderful company. They have strong language skills and love to share their ideas and stories. They are creative problem solvers, eager to understand “how” and “why” things work, and love to engage with people." This is Caleb to a T. He loves telling stories, being involved and learning more about the world around him.

Official Stats:
Height: 43"
Weight: 40 lbs

Unofficial Stats: Size 5 clothes, but I think this summer I'm going to move him and Austin into the same 6T size summer clothes again. He hasn't lost any teeth, he has long thick hair that grows fast and only stays combed for about 30 minutes.

I asked him what he loved right now and he said:
-I love that you love me.
-I love ice cream.
-I like to play in the snow.
-I like my homeschool (workbook).
-I like that you let us make pancakes.
-I like that you let me make my cake.
-I love that you let me play in the snow.
-I love that you let me play on trampolines (Airborne).
-I love mom.

Some other things to remember about Caleb right now:
-He loves playing with Lucy.
-He's great at helping me in the kitchen. He's especially good at pancakes and helping me make rolls. Sometimes I find him in the kitchen making "his own recipe" which mostly is a disaster, but I appreciate his independence and confidence.
-He likes writing and drawing on paper. He will fill whole notebooks full of lines of letters. (some real letters, some just circles and lines and crosses). He's learning so much and I can tell he's going to be ready for real reading very soon!
-We went on a trip to the California Redwoods and it was the perfect trip for him. Sand, sticks, and tall stumps to climb on - all his favorite things.

Here are some pictures from the last 6 months:

Happy Birthday Caleb, we love you!
