We had a great time celebrating Caleb for his 5th birthday. We love celebrating the whole birthday week and I try to set out birthday bags/balloons/something so they get one special thing each day. It might be a candy, or a special game with dad, or something simple but enough that they feel extra loved on their birthday week. This year some of Caleb's included a small toy and an ice cream date with mom.
The Primary brings around these birthday signs for the kids on their birthday and it's the sweetest thing that they do! The kids feel so loved and it's really neat.
We celebrated on the actual day with a "Caleb Day" at preschool followed by a giant Ice Cream sundae at Thanksgiving Point (Caleb chose to save his ice cream date for his actual birthday so that Lydia and Austin could come with him, sweet boy). We also hit the dinosaur museum as a fun outing for his birthday.
We had two parties, a small simple family party with Cal and Sue.
And a 5-year-old friend party. Caleb helped me design the invitations, deciding that he wanted a dinosaur birthday party, wrote his friends names on each of the cards and helped me deliver them. He wanted a dinosaur cake and I had this brilliant idea to make a flat cake with a fondant dinosaur on top, which was going to be really, really cute. Caleb decided that he wanted to help me make the cake and so he helped every step of the way. He used green and brown frosting for the cake bottom, picked the color he wanted the fondant, and helped me roll it out. He helped cut out the dinosaur, chose to add sprinkles and extra fondant pieces until it was just "perfect". This was a huge testament to my progress in being able to let go of what I wanted the cake to look like in lieu of him having a good experience making the cake with his mom.
His little friends were so cute. We decorated little wooden cars, raced them on a homemade table/track, played with balloons and ate cake and ice cream. It was simple; just as a 5 year old birthday party should be.

We loved celebrating our Caleb and are so glad for another year of him!
