Summer of Super Mario (on the Nintendo Wii)

This was the summer of Mario. We've usually tried to let the kids play Mario on the wii for a day at the beginning or end of summer. This year as part of end of school we got the Nintendo Wii all set up in the basement. We started playing with the kids and it turned into the summer of Mario. It was really fun because the kids were a bit older, so they could really play much better and even Caleb could do it. It was so much fun as a treat after the kids finished the things they had to do. Shantel and I loved going down and playing with them. The kids also loved just playing with the four of them or with friends. I think it is good not to play a ton of video games, but it's also good if the kids know how to play video games and at least have some chances.

The kids worked so hard to pass as many levels as they could and made it all the way through 8th world and finished world 8. Whenever they would get to a really tough level they could not get passed they would get Shantel or I to help them through it. It was really so fun to spend time with them playing.

Shantel and I would treat ourselves at the end of a long day by going down and playing together too. Sometimes the Wii would be left on, so we would need to go and turn it off before bed, and since we had to go down anyway- we'd play together for 15-20 minutes before we went to bed. We actually found that we did not finish the last two levels of world 9, so we went back and after a lot of work and getting better at playing again, finished those last two levels.

One of my other favorite things was that the kids brought down a bunch of stuffies and comfortable things to sit on while they played.

One day they had the Shields over to also play and Lydia and Sarah Shields made special Mario treats. It was so fun to do and made for a great summer activity.
