Clue Party!

Shantel loves clue. That's just something you should know about her. Which would not be a big deal, except, there are not a lot of people who really love clue or get excited if you suggest that for a game night. She has really been wanting to due a Clue party. We did one a few years ago and it was fun, but not everything Shantel wanted. When we did it before, not everyone was really excited about dressing up or clue in general, so even though we liked the people who came, it did not really meet what Shantel wanted it to be. For the last year or so she has been talking again about doing a clue party again and we have floated it past a few different friend groups to gauge if there are any people who would be really excited for a clue night and had not really figured out the right group to do it with. 

Then after the High School reunion a few weeks ago we were talking to the Newbold's and Flint's and the Newbold's have 4 or 5 different versions of clue and Shantel decided we should invite them (right then and there) to do a clue party. So we set it up in hopes that they would be up for dressing up and having a whole night for clue. 

I basically think the night went as well as it could have and was so super fun and I think it filled Shantel's clue bucket. Shantel was assigned as Mrs. White and I was Colonel Mustard. On Friday night we had a date night, which was good because we did not have anything for my costume yet. We went to the DI and found a yellowish sport coat and a bright yellow shirt. Shantel had a white dress from her Grandma Knowles she had planned to wear. I really liked our costumes and thought they turned out great. 

We decided to do a pizza bar for dinner with just a ton of different toppings so everyone could make their pizza how they wanted it.  We had the food and toppings represent the different characters. We had: Mrs. Whites' White Sauce, Miss Scarle'ts Red Sauce, Colonel Mustard's Melon and Cheese Bread, Mr. Green's Green Salad, Mrs. Peacock's Berry Blue Jell-o, and Professor Plums Purple Punch. It was also nice because all of the toppings could also go on the salad, so everyone made their pizza, then while that was cooking everyone had salad and then the pizza got done. Basically dinner was amazing and worked out fantastic. That is especially relevant because at 1 pm (party started at 6:30), Shantel and I were still deciding what we were going to do for dinner. 

Everyone did a good job with costumes and that made it fun.

We did a couple of things (Shantel's ideas) that made the night really fun. First, was that Shantel made it so that we had an clue game going the whole night. When everyone arrived, you got a few clue cards. Then throughout the night you could either win chances to see extra cards, or at certain times ask other people to see their cards. Shantel even hid clues in the candles on the table, so that as the candle burned down, it revealed a couple items that you crossed off your list. It was so fun to play the overarching clue game and finish the night by making our accusation based on whatever cards we had been able to see. 

We played a round of traditional clue (which I won and felt awesome about). The thing you have to remember, is that as an adult, clue has a lot more complexity because you can track cards and make assumptions which makes it so fun. Then we also played Harry Potter clue which I really liked and thought was so fun (Jason Newbold won). We ended up finishing the night playing Bunco  (a dice game to give everyone a chance to win a few more clue cards). 

We all made our final accusations (with only having enough information to know maybe one or two things, but not all three) and Shantel got it 100% right with having to make a lot of guessing. It was super super fun. The Newbold's and Flint's were great for the party and we really like hanging out with them. The party went awesome and hopefully it will be a good Halloween tradition to do a clue party.
